Mary Ann Ellis 1958 - 2019

Mary Ann Ellis 61, of Saint Joseph, MO passed away unexpectedly Sunday, December 22, 2019 in Saint Joseph, MO.

She was born June 28, 1958 in St. Joseph, MO, daughter of the late Michael and Frances Hernandez. She graduated from Bishop LeBlond High School class of 1976. She met Michael when she was 14 and they later married on April 1, 1977 at St. Patrick Catholic Church. They were each other’s best friends and were blessed with over 42 years of marriage. She retired from American Family Insurance from the Personal Lines Department after 28 years of service and then worked another 10 years as a temp along with babysitting her grandkids. Completely retiring to be a full time GG. Family was her everything, especially her 5 grandchildren, there wasn’t a day that she didn’t see, speak or was involved some way with them. She loved cooking and was always in the kitchen, so many have had her wonderful enchiladas and famous apple cake. She never met a stranger and loved to help others. Mary Ann loved to travel and was always planning her next trip. Any chance she got she would sneak out to the casino. Mary Ann was a member of St. James Altar Society, she served as a Eucharistic Minister for the Shut-ins, and was Past PTO President at St. James School, she was a member of St. James Catholic Church.

Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, Michael Richard Hernandez Jr.

Survivors include husband, Mike Ellis of the home, daughters, Michelle Conard and husband Daniel, and Melissa Nash and husband Jimmy all of St. Joseph, MO, sisters, Barb Fuson and husband Matt, St. Joseph, MO, and Patty Weidmaier, Kansas City, MO grandchildren, Kyla and Rilyn Conard, and Ellis, Malia and Ava Nash, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. 


The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, December 27, 2019, at 11:00 am at the St. James Catholic Church, Father Evan Harkins, and Father Vincent Rogers Con-Celebrating. The family will receive friends from 5- 8 pm Thursday at St. James Catholic Church, where the Rosary will be recited at 7:30 pm. The Interment will be at the Mount Olivet Cemetery.
