Griffons come up short at Rockhurst 87-75

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Missouri Western Men's Basketball team (4-8) dropped its third straight game, 87-75 at Rockhurst (5-4) on Saturday afternoon.

Down by as many as 18 in the first half, the Griffons found their stroke and cut the Rockhurst lead to eight at the half and got within six early in the second half.  Rockhurst ran away again and built a 19-point lead with 7:34 to go.  A late 12-4 run by MWSU cut the lead to eight with 20 seconds to go, but with time not in favor of the Griffons, Rockhurst scored the final four points.

NOTABLES

· Tyree Martin more than doubled his career-high with 27 points on 12 of 18 shooting. He added a team-high 10 rebounds with an assist and two steals.

· Rockhurst scored 54 of its points in the paint.

· The teams combined for 44 personal fouls and were a combined 28 of 48 from the free throw line.

· Rockhurst shot 59% from the field but made just 3 of 10 3-point attempts and went 18 of 31 at the free throw line.

· Tyrell Carroll had a team-high six assists with 14 points.

· Will Eames pulled down nine rebounds, had four assists and scored 10 points.

UP NEXT

After a 10-day layoff, the Griffons will host Avila (7-9) as part of a doubleheader with the Griffon Women against the NAIA opponent from Kansas City.
