WICHITA FALLS, Texas - In 27 years of the D2CCA Football All-America program there have been just two true freshmen named to the first team. Missouri Western's Trey Vaval just became the second.

The dynamic return man earned first team honors as selected by the Collegiate Sports Information Directors of America. The Blue Springs native led DII with 1,335 combined return yards and ranked second in all levels of NCAA football in the category. Vaval's 34.3 yards per kick return were third most in DII and broke a 27-year-old MIAA record. As a punt returner, Vaval ranked second in DII with a 21.1 yard average.

Vaval was named MVP of the Agent Barry Live United Bowl with 225 return yards. He became Missouri Western's first freshman All-American when he earned second team honors from the AFCA. Vaval was also a first team All-MIAA selection as a returner and earned first team D2CCA All-Region honors.
