Northwest Missouri State University's Tanner Owen and Spencer Phillips were named to the 2019 D2CCA All-America squad as released Thursday by the Collegiate Sports Information Directors of America.
Owen is a junior offensive lineman from Kearney, Missouri. Owen has started 39 consecutive games to begin his collegiate career. Owen tallied AFCA First-Team All-America status in 2019. Owen is a two-time first-team all-MIAA selection on the offensive line. He bolstered a Bearcat offense that ranked No. 1 in the nation in red zone scoring offense. The Bearcats scored 40 out of 41 times in the red zone for a 97.6% scoring clip. The Bearcats ranked No. 9 in the nation in scoring offense (41.9 points per game). The Bearcats scored 38 rushing touchdowns and 29 passing touchdowns in 2019.
Phillips is a senior defensive lineman from Tabor, Iowa. Phillips has also earned second-team All-America honors from the Associated Press. Phillips was the 2019 MIAA Defensive Player of the Year and started all 14 games on the defensive line. Phillips earned first-team all-MIAA status. He led the MIAA in tackles-for-loss (15) and tied for second in the league in sacks (8.0). Phillips recovered a team-best three fumbles. Phillips registered 51 total tackles, was credited with eight quarterback hurries and recorded two safeties.
