The St. Joseph Parks Department has released the 2019 Christmas ornament.
Remington Nature Center Manager Sarah Elder says this year's ornament celebrates the 80th anniversary of Phil Welch Stadium.
“It is one of the iconic open air stadiums… it’s always a great time to go there and these ornaments just reflect that, they’re very detailed. We’re just really happy to be able to honor and celebrate the Phil Welch Stadium this year,” Elder says. “It opened in 1939 and was later named in honor of Mayor Phil Welch who really spearheaded the drive to get it open."
This is the 4th year the parks department has released an ornament reflecting a local place. Previous ornaments include Krug Park, the Missouri Theater and the Remington Nature Center. Ornaments are available to purchase at the Remington Nature Center gift shop.
