Second Harvest Community Food Bank is holding a food drive in an effort to help everyone put a holiday meal on their table.

Second Harvest Communications Coordinator Blake Haynes says the "reverse advent calendar" on their website is a way to encourage families to collect food for others in need.

"For example, if you have a family, each day, your child or yourself, you’re able to place that item in there and really feel like, hey, I’m building toward giving somebody a meal this holiday season and knowing the fact of, hey, I’m able to provide for somebody who may not be able to provide for themselves like a kid or a senior or somebody who’s just fallen hard on their luck,” Haynes says.

Haynes says you never know why someone may be in need this holiday as hunger has no face, no race, no gender and no biases.

“What would you do if tomorrow, you lost your job for whatever reason? What would you do for this holiday season? Would you be able to comfortably provide a meal for your family, yourself or whomever for the holiday season? Really consider what place you’re in and maybe make that donation and give it back to those communities and those that are in need," Haynes says.

The Food for the Holidays Food Drive list can be found on Second Harvest's website, shcfb.org. Boxes should be delivered to Second Harvest on or before December 19th.
