Central basketball teams open season with sweep at Benton

The St. Joseph Central girls and boys basketball teams swept their doubleheader at Benton High School Tuesday night as it was the season opener for all four teams.


The Central girls led wire-to-wire as they beat the Cardinals 47-27, while the Indians won the boys game 53-28.


In the girls game, Central used an 8-0 run in the first quarter to take a 13-4 lead and eventually led 27-14 at halftime. The Indians went on a 15-0 run in the third quarter to extend their leads and cruised to the 20-point win. Lauren Eiman and Gracie Moodie had eight points each to led CHS, while Olivia Walters scored nine points to lead Benton.


In the boys game, the Cardinals led Central after the first quarter 8-3 but the Indians then outscored Benton 25-4 in the second quarter and rolled to an easy win. A.J. Redmon led Central with 17 points and LaVar Felder added 11. Kason Mauzey had eight to lead Benton.
