Northwest volleyball sweeps Emporia State for 20th win

MARYVILLE, Missouri – The No. 19-ranked Northwest Missouri State University women's volleyball posted its 20th win of the season with a 3-0 sweep of the Emporia State Hornets at Bearcat Arena on Saturday night.

 

With the triumph, Northwest collected back-to-back 20-win seasons for the first time since 1999. It's the 16th 20-win season in Bearcat volleyball history.

 

Northwest closed the regular season with a mark of 20-8 after it swept the Hornets by set scores of 27-25, 25-20 and 25-17.

 

The Bearcats have defeated the Hornets four straight times and have recorded wins in seven of the last eight encounters.

 

Northwest has qualified for the 2019 MIAA Tournament and will be the No. 4 seed. Northwest's quarterfinal matchup will pit the Bearcats against No. 5-seeded Missouri Western on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at Hy-Vee Arena in Kansas City, Missouri.


NOTES: Northwest honored its four senior student-athletes (Genny Cruz, Briley Downing, Maggie Murphy and Jordyn Musselman) and senior manager J.T. Hart prior to the match ... Hallie Sidney led the way with 15 kills (.268) ... Morgan Lewis added 13 kills (.321) ... Alyssa Rezac recorded a team-best 43 assists ... Northwest posted 10 blocks, including five each from Morgan Lewis and Bethany Elkins
