Missouri women drop road game at Green Bay 72-64

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Women's Basketball (1-3, 0-0 SEC) fell in its first road game of the season, 72-64, at Green Bay on Saturday afternoon. In the loss, senior guard Amber Smith (Shreveport, La.) scored her 1,000th career point, becoming the 37th member of Mizzou’s 1,000-point club.

 

TURNING POINT

 

Mizzou trailed for much of the game, but was able to cut Green Bay’s deficit to nine with under three minutes left. However, the Phoenix were able to connect on 9-of-12 shots from the free throw line over the game’s final 2:30 to seal the victory.

 

TOP TIGERS

•                     Redshirt senior Hannah Schuchts (Talahassee, Fla.) led the way for Mizzou, scoring 13 points while making 3-of-4 shots from the three-point arc. The Tiger senior also grabbed eight rebounds and had two blocks in the game.

•                     Smith continued her streak of scoring in double figures each game this season with 12 points, while grabbing eight rebounds.

•                     Freshman forward Hayley Frank (Strafford, Mo.) scored in double figures for the second consecutive game, scoring 12 points with four rebounds and three steals.

NOTES

•                     Mizzou is now 1-4 all-time against Green Bay. The Tigers have never won in Green Bay, with its lone win over the Phoenix coming in Columbia, 79-72, on Dec. 30, 2001.

•                     With a first quarter layup, Smith became the 37th member of Mizzou’s 1,000-point club.

•                     Smith is just the 25th Tiger to score 1,000 points and grab 500 rebounds.

•                     Smith finished with 12 points, marking the fourth time this season and 44th time in her career she has scored in double figures. Her eight rebounds marked the fourth time this season and the 51st time in her career she has recorded five or more rebounds.

•                     Schuchts’ 13 points marked the third time this season and 10th time in her career she has scored in double figures. Her eight rebounds mark the fourth time this season and the 20th time in her career she has grabbed five or more boards.

•                     Frank scored in double figures for the second consecutive time in her short collegiate career. The Tiger freshman also recorded a career high three steals.

•                     Senior guard Jordan Chavis (Lexington, N.C.) led the team in assists with three, marking the third time this season and the 14th time in her career she has dished out three or more dimes.

•                     Mizzou shot 76.2 percent from the free throw line (16-for-21, marking the third time in four games this season Mizzou has shot 75 percent or better from the charity stripe.

Mizzou is on the road again for its next game, as the Tigers travel to South Dakota on Thursday, Nov. 21. Tipoff from Vermillion, S.D., is set for 7 p.m.
