Buchanan County deputies helped save a man’s life in the courthouse Wednesday.

According to Buchanan County Sheriff Bill Puett, an individual at the courthouse collapsed, was not breathing and did not have a heartbeat.

“We had deputies involved that immediately began CPR and rescue breathing,” Puett says. “They applied the AED, there was an AED shock delivered… and the second AED assessment advised them that the subject had a heartbeat back and was breathing.”

Puett says several deputies were involved and helped resuscitate the man before the ambulance got to the courthouse.

“Kudos to our folks for being prepared and doing such an excellent job with what they do,” Puett says. “We got a call from Mosaic and the citizen was alert and talking when he was loaded into the ambulance and he was around and responsive at the hospital. The folks from Mosaic advised us that our people did a great job and ended up helping save this guy’s life.”
