Northwest Missouri State University men's basketball coach Ben McCollum has announced the addition of three student-athletes during the fall 2019 signing period.

McCollum has signed small forward Daniel Abreu (Willard, Missouri, shooting guard Byron Alexander (Kansas City, Missouri) and shooting guard Spencer Schomers (Omaha, Nebraska).

"We are thrilled that Daniel, Byron & Spencer will be joining our program," McCollum said. "On top of being high quality basketball players, all three come from great families and will be great additions to the Bearcat family."

Abreu, a 6'6" small forward, will join the Bearcats after completing his senior season with Jeremy Dresslaer and the Willard Tigers. Abreu led Willard High School to 17-10 record and a berth into the district final as a junior while averaging 27.9 points, 7.9 rebounds and 2.7 assists on 55% shooting from the field and 45% shooting from three-point range. Abreu was tabbed as the Central Ozark Conference Player of the Year while also being selected to the MBCA Class 5 All-State Team.

"Daniel's ability to shoot, drive and post up make him very tough to guard," McCollum said. "On top of his versatility, what stuck out the most to us about Daniel during the recruiting process was his relentless motor on the court and high-energy personality off the court."

Alexander, a 6'4" shooting guard, will join the Bearcats after completing his senior season with Chris Neff and the Staley Falcons. As a junior, Alexander averaged 17.2 points, 7.6 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 2.8 steals. In the summer, Alexander competed with the MoKan Select AAU Program out of Kansas City.

"Byron is a fantastic athlete and will have a chance to be an elite defender in our league. Coach Neff's players always have great energy and Byron is no different," McCollum said. "Offensively, he is very good off the bounce and is a great finisher around the rim."

Schomers, a 6'5" shooting guard, will join the Bearcats after completing his senior season with Josh Luedtke and Creighton Prep. As a junior, Schomers averaged 7.7 points while knocking down 43 three-pointers for the Junior Jays en route to a 22-5 record and Nebraska Class A State Tournament appearance.

"Spencer comes from one of the best high school programs in the Midwest and really understands how to play the game," McCollum said. "His ability to shoot the ball at a high level combined with his length and athleticism make him a great fit in our program."
