ST. JOSEPH - Candi Whitaker got her first win as head coach of the Missouri Western Women's Basketball (1-1) team with a dominant performance by her Griffons, Saturday night at Civic Arena. Missouri Western never trailed in a 77-61 thumping of Minnesota Duluth (0-2).

Whitaker and her team's first win came against a Minnesota Duluth team that went 23-7 a season ago, winning the NSIC postseason championship and playing in the NCAA DII Central Region Championships.

The Griffons used a 23-15 second quarter to build a 34-20 halftime lead, shooting 50% in the first and 53% in the second quarter. Chris Wilson recorded her second double-double in as many games in a Griffon uniform, scoring 27 with 13 rebounds, three steals and two assists. Corbyn Cunningham added 22 points and seven rebounds. The Bulldogs limited Katrina Roendfeld to seven points, but the Griffon guard pulled own eight boards with three assists and three steals.

Missouri Western was dominant on the glass, out-rebounding UMD 42-28. In the paint, the Griffs were equally impressive, scoring 48 points and allowing just 28.
