COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Men’s Basketball junior forward Jeremiah Tilmon, Jr. (East St. Louis, Ill.) was selected preseason second-team All-SEC in a vote among the league’s coaches, the conference office announced on Monday. It marks the first preseason league honor for Tilmon, Jr., in his career.
Tilmon, Jr., averaged 10.1 points and 5.9 rebounds as a sophomore for Mizzou last season. The 6-foot-10, 260-pound forward blocked a team-leading 25 shots during the 2018-19 season, while shooting 54.5-percent from the field (126-of-231) – the highest field goal percentage of any SEC player returning this season. He became just the second Tiger in the past three decades to shoot above 54 percent in back-to-back seasons – joining single-season record holder, Ricardo Ratliffe.
Mizzou was 10-5 when Tilmon, Jr., reached double figures last season. He racked up four double-doubles and snatched at least five rebounds in 23 of 31 games.
Tilmon, Jr., was also one of 20 players in the nation named to the preseason watch list for the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar National Center of the Year Award last month.
The 2019-20 season officially tips off this week for Mizzou with a pair of games at Mizzou Arena. The Tigers will host Incarnate Word, Nov. 6, and Northern Kentucky, Nov. 8.
