IRVING, Texas – A trio of Texas Tech players and a freshman from Texas earned Big 12 weekly awards for their strong performances during Week 6.
Red Raider quarterback Jeff Duffey was tabbed Offensive Player of the Week, while linebacker Jordyn Brooks was named Defensive Player of the Week and Trey Wolff garnered Special Teams Player of the Week. Texas’ Roschon Johnson earned Newcomer of the Week. The award winners are selected by a five-person media panel.
Duffey completed 26-of-44 passes for 424 yards and four touchdowns (no interceptions) while rushing for one other in the Red Raiders’ win over No. 21 Oklahoma State. The junior guided Texas Tech to 586 yards of total offense en route to its first win over a ranked opponent at home since 2013.
Brooks collected a career-high 19 tackles to go along with three sacks, four tackles for loss and a forced fumble in Texas Tech’s win over Oklahoma State. His three solo sacks were the most since 2016 and his 19 tackles were the most for a Red Raider since 2002. On Sunday, Brooks was announced as the National Defensive Player of the Week by the Walter Camp Football Foundation.
Wolff connected on three field goals and registered a touchback in seven of nine kickoff attempts, as Texas Tech knocked off Oklahoma State. His three FG makes were from 38, 27 and 26 yards.
Johnson rushed for a career-high 121 yards on 21 carries to help Texas down West Virginia, 42-31, on the road. After converting from quarterback to running back one week before the season opener, the freshman registered his first 100-yard game and garnered the most rushing yards by a Longhorn since 2017.
All four honorees for this week’s awards are first-time recipients.
