Duane John Wagg passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 22 at his home in Platte City, MO. On this day, Mark, his brother-in-law was taking Duane his mail and found him in his chair at eternal rest. Duane had been suffering physically, with great pain, after his heart attack nearly 3 years ago. Duane grew up in Ogallah, KS., and loved and prided himself as being very productive, a great employee – he just loved working. He started working early in his life. He got his start at the family restaurant, Mom’s Place, in WaKeeney, KS. After a move to Hoxie, KS, during his senior year, Duane worked as a nurses’ aid at the Long-term Care in Hoxie. He was a favorite caretaker to many of the residents of the nursing home. His kind heart and strength created trusting relationships. He then moved to Holdredge, NE where he managed The Zephyr and Hotel Dale Restaurants with his mother, Doris. He even had a short run driving an over-the-road truck before moving to Platte City, MO where he began a career working the night shift catering airplanes at MCI.

Service was a major part of his life, and his passion to service others made Duane complete. While he was not working, he enjoyed music, movies, and video games. If ever you found yourself needing a partner for a trivia game or a good joke, Duane was your man.

Duane is survived by his daughter Tamara (Charlie) Perez and her children Aiden, Alissa, and Adam, his mother Doris Peterson, and his siblings Sandy (Jim) Schaben, Anna (Mark) Cooper, Sherri (Dan) Willgohs. He was preceded in death by his infant sister Jeanie, his sister Judy Herbster, and his father Robert Wagg. He was an uncle to six and a great uncle to eight.

Duane’s passing is a heartbreak, but it brings us peace to know that he is with the Lord - Amen and Thank You Jesus - Duane is now able to rest pain-free and find joy. A Celebration of Life is being planned later this summer.
