A DeKalb County grand jury has indicted more than two dozen prison inmates alleged to have sparked a riot at the Cameron prison last year which caused more than one million dollars damage.

Attorney General Eric Schmitt’s office reports the grand jury returned charges relating to damage of property at the Crossroads Correctional Center, violence towards fellow inmates, plus tampering with a motor vehicle for stealing a forklift during the May 2018 riot.

State officials estimated the damage done to Crossroads at $1.3 million.

DeKalb County Prosecutor Erik Tate requested the grand jury convene in wake of the riot. Gov. Mike Parson appointed the Missouri Attorney General’s Office to assist in the prosecution.
