ATCHISON COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating an incident in Atchison and continue to search for a suspect.
Just after 2a.m. Sunday police responded to a disturbance in the 100 block South 3rd Street in Atchison that was reported to involve a weapon, according to Police Chief Mike Wilson.
As officers arrived it was learned that a suspect had just left the scene in a pickup truck. An officer spotted the truck near 4th and U.S.59 and attempted to stop the vehicle which fled into Missouri.
After fleeing for several miles eastbound on U.S.59 in Missouri the truck stopped and the driver fled on foot into the darkness. The Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office arrived on the scene and joined the investigation.
Although the suspect was not located Police have determined his identity and the investigation continues. No one was injured during the disturbance in the 100 block South 3rd, according to Wilson. Investigators determined that a weapon the suspect possessed in the truck was not involved in the disturbance.
