Nodaway County was recently named on a USA Today list of places where young people are moving.

Nodaway County was ranked second on the list, ‘From Charlottesville to Champaign: 40 places young people are moving.’

Maryville Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Lily White said the numbers were compiled on 18 to 35 year-olds who were not college students.

“It’s exciting because we know our community is growing, we know that we are progressive enough to be attracting younger people that have the option for mobility to any parts of the country, to any parts of the world and we’re attractive to those people for different reasons,” White said. “It gives us, also, just an opportunity to highlight some of the really awesome things going on here in town.”

White mentions that in Nodaway County, 18 to 35 year-olds have the ability to own a home much younger and move up in companies.

“We have several people between the ages of 18 and 35 that are working full time at the university or that already own their own businesses, so it gives us an opportunity to highlight those people that are both making Nodaway County and Maryville and the different small outlying communities around Maryville as places that people really want to be and the different benefits that you have living in a smaller community than in a large city," White said.

Also on the list in Missouri are Johnson County at 12 and Pulaski County at one.
