Sunny today with temps near 90

Fairly typical summer temperatures are expected through the end of the week with highs in the mid to upper 80s. We’ll see decreasing clouds today with partly cloudy skies on Wednesday. There’s a small chance for morning showers on Thursday, but showers and storms are likely Thursday night into Friday morning. Here’s the 7-day forecast from the National Weather Service:

Thursday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 85. Calm wind. Chance of precipitation is 30%.


Thursday Night: Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly after 2 a.m. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 68. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.


Friday: Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly before 8 a.m. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Partly sunny, with a high near 88. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

Heat advisory in effect this afternoon

Storms will move through northern Missouri this morning. But they will give way to hot and humid conditions along and south of Highway 36. A Heat Advisory will be in effect from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. Highs will be in the lower to middle 90s with heat indices of 103 to 111 degrees. Those hot and humid conditions will also lead to a new round of storms late this afternoon and into the overnight hours. A few storms in northern Missouri could be severe with damaging winds the main hazard. Here’s the 7-day forecast from the National Weather Service:


Today: A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms before 11 a.m., then a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m. Mostly sunny, with a high near 92. Heat index values as high as 103. East southeast wind 6 to 11 mph becoming west in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 20%.


Tonight: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 10 p.m. Partly cloudy, with a low around 71. North northwest wind 6 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.


Tuesday: Partly sunny, then gradually becoming sunny, with a high near 87. North northwest wind 7 to 10 mph.


Tuesday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 66. North northwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening.
