Caldwell County authorities are investigating a series of three house fires, all considered arson; one fatal.

Caldwell County Sheriff Mitchell Allen, in a news release, says a fire was reported Tuesday morning around 8:30 near Southwest State Route D and Southwest Colt Drive in rural Polo. Firefighters located a body inside. The victim’s identification is being withheld pending the notification of family members.

Deputies and firefighters responded to two more house fires, both considered arson, in the next two hours along the same road. Both of those houses were vacant.

Allen says it appears all three fires were set.

A dark, four-door passenger vehicle, possibly a black Dodge Caliber, was spotted near the scene.

Fire departments from Polo, Cameron, Lathrop, Hamilton, Kingston, and Braymer responded to the fires.

Allen says the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the Cameron Police Department, the Clinton County Sheriff’s Department, the Ray County Sheriff’s Department, and the Clay County Sheriff’s Department assisted it in the investigation.

Anyone with information concerning the fires is encouraged to call the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Department at 816-586-2681.
