NODAWAY COUNTY — A Hopkins man was killed in an accident at 3:22 p.m. Tuesday on a half mile south of Hopkins.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported a 2011 Jeep and 2013 Volkswagon were slowed for a farm implement when the Jeep was struck from behind by a 2005 Peterbilt semi driven by John D. Paxson, 45, Mount Ayr, Iowa.
The Jeep struck the Volkswagon in front of it, left the roadway and came to rest on its wheels. The driver of the Jeep — Marcus K. Nelson, 75, Hopkins — was transported to Mosaic Maryville where he was pronounced dead. A passenger in that vehicle — Glenda L. Wyer-Nelson, 67, Hopkins — also was transported to the hospital for treatment of moderates injuries. The other drivers were not injured.
