A woman is facing a charge in a shooting that injured a juvenile Tuesday evening after an investigation by officers with the St. Joseph Police Department.
22-year-old Makia Shimer is in custody and has been charged with felony unlawful use of a weapon. St.. Joseph Police responded to a call at approximately 6 p.m. on March 31st in the area of South 18th and Charles streets in reference to shots fired following a possible fight. At the scene, officers found one male juvenile who had sustained injuries and transported him to Mosaic Life Care for treatment.
The juvenile’s injuries were determined to be minor, and he has since been treated and released.
“The shooting of an innocent child as a result of a reckless act is an outrage that strikes at the heart of our community,” Chief Paul Luster said in a news release from the city. “The charges filed today are the result of community cooperation and relentless, around-the-clock work by officers and detectives who refused to rest until the individual responsible was identified and brought to justice. If you harm members of our community, you will be pursued without hesitation and without pause.”
This incident remains under investigation. No additional information is being released at this time.
