Mary Kay Elias, 87, of Kansas City, MO formerly of Atchison, KS died on Sunday, January 18th, 2026, at Amberwell Health, Atchison, KS.

Mary Kay was born on May 16, 1938, in Atchison, KS, the daughter of Hubert Joseph and Agnes C. (Cavanaugh) Elias. She graduated from Mt. St. Scholastica Academy in 1956 earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Mt. St. Scholastica College in Music. She taught school for 12 years before earning her Master’s Degree from UMKC in Public Administration. Mary Kay worked as the Manager Distribution Operations for the United States Postal Service, Kansas City Missouri, overseeing the Plant Operations to include Transportation, Maintenance, Processing & Dispatching. She was a member of the St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Kansas City, MO, was a Benedictine Oblate, a member of the Retired Postal Worker Association, was an accomplished classical organist and animal lover. She enjoyed reading, raising plants, and cooking. She was a community organizer and philanthropist and always a good neighbor.

Mary K. was married to Lee Bohannon on Dec. 29, 1986. Mr. Bohannon survives of the home in Kansas City. Additional survivors include four daughters Avette, Jestine, Leyah and Christine and four sons Bo, James, Matthew and Lonnie all of Kansas City, MO, three sisters: Anne McNulty, Durham, NC, Dorothy Lickteig, Corpus Christi, TX and Sr. Therese Elias, OSB., Atchison, KS, seventeen grandchildren and a host of great grandchildren. Her parents, three brothers William, John and Hubert Charles “Chuck” Elias preceded her in death.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Saturday, Jan. 24th, 2026, at the Benedictine Sisters Choir Chapel (Please enter through the Dooley Center entrance for the service) with Fr. Anthony Lickteig as celebrant. The body will be cremated following the service and internment of her cremated remains will be at a later date in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. A vigil service will be held starting at 6:00pm on Friday, Jan. 23rd, 2026, at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral home with visitation to follow until 8:30 pm. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Dooley Center and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
