The United Way of Greater St. Joseph is heading back into St. Joseph elementary schools this fall and is is calling for volunteers to read with children through United Way Reading Adventure.
United Way will partner with Bessie Ellison, Edison, Oak Grove, Parkway, Pickett and Robidoux elementary schools to connect children with a reading volunteer during the first semester. Each program is held at a different time, and volunteers are needed in November and December to read with students.
Volunteers can sign up to read once, a few times or on a regular schedule. Additional schools will offer the program in the second semester. Students in the United Way Reading Adventure program will also receive books to encourage reading at home, so gently used books for elementary children are needed as well.
Individuals and organizations interested in volunteering to read or donating books can contact Jodi Flurry or register online at stjosephunitedway.org/pie.
