Tony Lee Wood, 67, Elwood, Kansas, passed away Friday, May 3, 2024.
He was born July 8, 1956 in Tuscumbia, Missouri to Lloyd and Hazel (Burns) Wood. He grew up in Osage Beach, Missouri, graduating from Osage Beach High School.
Tony earned his bachelor’s degree in construction engineering from Central Missouri State University. He also earned a law enforcement certificate, and was a police officer in Osage Beach for a time.
He later moved to Osborn, Missouri, where he operated his own sign business, Midwest Signs. Later he worked at Penn Street Signs and then Yellow Frog Graphics, both in St. Joseph.
Tony married Marie Annette Canterbury on June 4, 2004.
He enjoyed camping, Mustangs games, doing yardwork, and holidays, especially Christmas and the Fourth of July.
Family was most important in Tony’s life. He loved doing things with his children and grandchildren, and always had a hug and an “I love you” for them.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 20 years, Marie; children, Ryan Wood (Cecelia), Stacey Wood (Don), Bradley Canterbury (Yuliya), Brian Canterbury (Echo), Travis Hartman (Irina), and Drew Hartman; grandchildren, Aliyiah Albertson (Ronnie), Brianna Sorto (Tiffany), Aniya Canterbury, Sophia Canterbury, Issen Canterbury, Isabella Hartman, twins Theodore and Luca Hartman, Bennett Wood, and Flynn Wood; siblings, Lloyd Wood (Becky) and Roy Wood (Irma).
Farewell Services and Public Livestream 3:00 P.M. Monday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. A luncheon will be hosted at the Elwood Community Center following the service. The family will gather with friends 2:00 to 4:00 P.M. Sunday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. The family suggests memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society.
