Charles Wayne Gillespie, 91, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Sunday, September 17,2023. He was born August 18, 1932 to the late Ernest and Lola Gillespie in Ridgeway, Missouri.
On October 23, 1960, he married Edna Boyer. Charles served in the United States Air Force. He was a hard working man who provided well for his family. He was self-employed and operated Charlie's Service Station at 22nd and Messanie Streets until 1996 at which time he retired. Upon retirement, he enjoyed helping his buddy Gary Westcott at Hurd Auctions.
Charles is preceded in death by his wife Edna, two sons, Steve and Gary Boyer, his parents, five brothers, and two sisters.
He is survived by his daughter Tammy Hogan (Jay), sons Jerry Boyer (Sharon), and Terry Boyer, grandchildren, Brian Lawson (Veronica), and Emily Hogan (Dylan Bender), and great grandchildren, Brian "CoCo" Lawson, Leah Lawson, and Ellie Bender.
Charles enjoyed and took great pride in his family, he also enjoyed his friends, fishing, auctions, and his kitty cats. He will be deeply missed by many. The family would like to thank Saint Luke's for the excellent care he received from many doctors in his later years. Also, thank you to Tiffany Springs Rehabilitation LTC for the care they provided in the last year and half of his life. A very special thank you to David, Kay, OHE.
The family will receive friends from 10-11 am Saturday, September 30, 2023 with funeral services to start at 11:00 AM Saturday. The interment with military honors will be at the Memorial Park Cemetery.
