Jay E. Garrett, 80, passed away October 9, 2023. He was born on January 25, 1943, in St. Joseph, MO, to Everett and Virginia (McCoy) Garrett.
He was a graduate of Elwood High School, Class of 1961. Jay was a dedicated worker, committing 40 years of his life to IHP Industrial as a respected pipefitter.
On December 27, 1963, Jay married his beloved wife, Ginger Barnes. Jay was a loving father to his sons, Pat and Ray, and was preceded in death by his parents.
Beyond work, his passions in life were truly unique. An avid collector, he had a particular fondness for antique tractors. His love of vintage hit-and-miss engines led him on many restoration projects. Still, perhaps nothing made Jay happier than riding his mules.
Jay is survived by his wife; sons, Pat (Tracie) and Ray Garrett; grandchildren, Johnna Wallingford (Cody), Brock, Logan, and Lauren Garrett; and great-grandchildren, Garrett and Clay Wallingford.
