ATCHISON COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating thefts and attempted thefts that occurred in the early morning hours on Wednesday in the northeast area of Atchison.
At 5:30a.m., officers responded to 3rd and Laramie where a boat and trailer were setting in the intersection, according to Police Chief Mike Wilson. Just after 1:00a.m. an attempt was made to take a vehicle from the 400 block Unity, according to Wilson. A short time later forced entry was made into a vehicle in the 300 block Mound. Vehicle alarms alerted victims and police to both scenes.
Although both vehicles sustained damage nothing was taken.
At 1:30AM police officers attempted to stop a Ford pick up truck pulling a utility trailer in the area of 3rd and Main.
The truck fled from officers. The trailer was recovered in the 700 block Riley and the truck was recovered at 5th and Riley with no suspects located. It was subsequently determined that the truck and trailer had been stolen from the 900 block North 6th sometime after 10PM.
