Josh Naylor hit a go-ahead, two-run double in the sixth inning to help the Seattle Mariners beat the St. Louis Cardinals 4-2 on Monday night at T-Mobile Park.
The Mariners scored four runs in the sixth inning to erase St. Louis’ advantage. The Cardinals jumped out in front 2-0 on a two-run home run by Alec Burleson in the fourth inning, his 17th of the season.
Naylor, who homered in his last two games, turned on a hanging curveball from Cardinals reliever Gordon Graceffo for a two-run shot after Julio Rodríguez got Seattle on the board with an RBI single. After his double, Naylor made a heads-up play and stole third base, allowing him to score with ease on a sacrifice fly from Jorge Polanco.
Graceffo took his first loss of the season in relief, falling to 3-1 on the season, giving up two runs on two hits with one walk in one inning of action. At the plate, the Cardinals had just three hits with Burleson going 1-for-4 with the home run and two RBIs. Ivan Herrera was 1-for-3 with a walk while Lars Nootbaar was 1-for-4 for the two other hits.
Up next, St. Louis continues their series on the road with Seattle. Matthew Liberatore (7-11, 4.15 ERA) starts for the Cardinals against the Mariners George Kirby (8-7, 4.47). First pitch is at 8:40pm with coverage beginning at 8:30 on KY 102 (102.5 FM).
