Elmer Willard Gentry 84, of St. Joseph, MO., passed away Friday, June 23, 2023 in an Atchison, KS. hospital. He was born May 7, 1939 in St. Joseph, MO, son of the late Sarah and Willard Gentry.
He graduated from Benton High School, class of 1957 and married Patricia Hurd on October 26, 1958 and she survives of the home. He served in the Army National Guard for twenty-five years retiring as a Chief Warrant Officer III. Elmer was the owner operator of Branson Furnace & Appliance Co.
He was a member the former Hyde Valley United Methodist Church, the Y-Fry club and was active in boy scouts as a troop leader and a member of the Tribe of Mic-O-Say, at Camp Geiger. He enjoyed coaching boys baseball, football and youth wrestling. He also loved to fish, hunt and mushroom hunt.
Elmer was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Harold Gentry, and sister, Flora Mae Simmons.
Survivors include wife, Patricia Lynn Gentry of the home, sons, Patrick (Debbie) Gentry, St. Joseph, MO, Timothy (Esra) Gentry, Cherry Hills Village, CO, daughter, Shelley (Rick) Berry, and a son, Elmer Joe (Corie) Gentry of Frankfort, IL, sister, Doris Chappell of St. Joseph, MO there are eight grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM on Wednesday at the Rupp Funeral Home. Funeral services and public live stream; 11:00 am, Thursday, June 29, 2023 at the Rupp Funeral Home. The Interment will be at the Sparta Cemetery.
