A structure fire claimed the life of a St. Joseph resident Monday night.
The St. Joseph Fire Department and the St. Joseph Police Department are investigating the fatal fire that did extensive damage to a house located in the 32-Hundred block of South 22nd Street.
When they arrived at the scene firefighters discovered 53 year old James Zent in a second floor bedroom. Zent was transported to the emergency room at Mosaic where he was pronounced dead. An autopsy has not been performed yet. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
St. Joseph police say an assist call was issued just after eight o’clock last night as firefighters were on the scene. The fire was brought under control late in the evening.
