Steven Frank Haskey III 1942 - 2024

Steven Frank Haskey III, 82, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Saturday, April 27, 2024. 

He was born February 12, 1942 in St. Joseph to Homer and Bernice (Hathaway) Haskey. He grew up in St. Joseph and graduated from Lafayette High School.

He joined the U.S. Air Force and proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. He later joined the Air National Guard, where he was an aircraft mechanic and achieved the rank of Master Sergeant and served in Operation Desert Storm. He retired from the Guard in 2002. He loved being able to travel the world with the Guard, having visited every continent except Antarctica.

Steven married F. Diane Thomas on August 18, 1961. She preceded him in death on December 20, 2022.

In his younger years, Steven loved to fish and do yard work. He later enjoyed painting houses – inside and out. He was a quiet man with a sense of humor who liked to let loose every now and then, making for some memorable moments.

Most of all, family came first for Steven. He loved getting the family together anytime he could. He also enjoyed teasing his family about their favorite sports teams. Later on, he was a full-time caregiver for Diane as she suffered through Alzheimer’s. He was a rock for his family, leaving a legacy of strength and love.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Diane; his parents; siblings, Delores Williams, Richard Haskey, Rose Fowler, and Patricia Alery; and son-in-law, Steven Hall.

Survivors include children, Steven Frank (Debi) Haskey IV, Bambi (Phil) Smith, Kendra Hall, and Brant Haskey (Carrie); grandchildren, Heidi (Jason) DeSchepper, Brandon (Jeffrey) Haskey-Valerius, Chantee (Laura) Smith, Chanel (Martin) Johnson, Cory Smith, Janae Hall, Jacek Haskey, and Jordan Hall; eight great-grandchildren; siblings, Peggy (Glen) Calhoun and Carol Scholtz; numerous other extended family members and friends.

Farewell Services and Public Livestream 1:00 P.M. Friday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will gather with friends 6:00 to 8:00 P.M.
