A 34-year-old Elwood man has been convicted in Iowa of killing his girlfriend in 2018.
Originally charged with first-degree murder, Zackery Bassett has been found guilty of second-degree murder in the death of 50-year-old Andrea Solokowski in September of 2018 in Webster City, Iowa.
Prosecutors accused Bassett of abusing and stalking Solokowski, who was from Sioux City, for more than a year before her death. An autopsy indicated death by asphyxiation, but the cause of death is listed as undetermined.
In November of 2018, police in St. Joseph arrested Bassett on an Iowa warrant.
He is scheduled to be sentenced in April 5th. The charge of second-degree murder comes with a maximum sentence of 50 years in prison.
