A citywide food drive this weekend will benefit food pantries at area schools.
Second Harvest Community Food Bank Communications Coordinator Blake Haynes says they will be accepting non-perishable food items at their 'Fill the Van' food drives Friday and Saturday.
“We will also accept monetary donations on site if you’d like to be able to give back to your community monetarily, you can do that. One dollar equals three meals that we’re able to provide for those in need within our 19 counties,” Haynes tells St. Joseph Post. “Anything you can do to assist through that food drive, that would be amazing, just come on out and see us.”
The food drive runs from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday. The vans will be at Brothers Market in Savannah and Price Chopper, Hy-vee, Ray’s Green Hills and Sam's Club in St. Joseph.
Donations will support Second Harvest’s Campus Cupboard program which provides food pantries on campus at middle schools, high schools and colleges in the area for students in need.
