Sheriff: Man struck, killed on I-70 after earlier crash

SHAWNEE COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating a fatal pedestrian accident that occurred early Monday in Shawnee County

Just after 1:30a.m., the Shawnee County Emergency Communications Center (Dispatch) began receiving reports of an individual in the roadway of Interstate 70  near SW Auburn Road, according to Deputy Abigail Christian.

While deputies were in route, they were notified that the individual had been struck by a vehicle. The 25-year-old man was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Preliminary investigation shows that the victim was also involved in a single vehicle accident in the 700 block of SW Auburn Road earlier in the morning, prior to the being hit.

Interstate 70 westbound was closed near the scene from approximately 1:45am until 6:15a.m. Authorities have not released the victim's name.
