Due to the increased number of COVID-19 cases in Buchanan County, the St. Joseph Public Library system has moved to contactless services.

Library Director Mary Beth Revels says the library makes the decision to use contactless service based on a policy.

“The four branches of the St. Joseph Public Library are now offering contactless service as of today, July 21st,” Revels tells St. Joseph Post.

This policy has a process based on number of confirmed positive cases and are color coded depending on the number of cases with green be the best outcome and red the least desirable.

Revels says the city is currently in a red risk level, causing the contactless service.

“If there are 10 to 24 cases per day that’s the orange risk level, and if there are more than 25 cases per day then that is the red risk level,” says Revels.

When the city is back to an orange risk level or lower for seven days, the library will reopen to public use.

The public is encouraged to call the library branch of their choice to place holds on library materials during this time.
