Richard G. Ashford, 74, Mound City, Missouri, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, January 1, 2026.
He was born January 16, 1951 to Perd M. and Erma Lois (McDonald) Ashford in Maryville, Missouri.
Starting his professional journey in the construction industry, Richard was known for his strong work ethic. His career path eventually led him to Wallace Farms. Richard's final two decades were spent at the Western Reception Diagnostic Correctional Center as a correctional officer.
In Richard’s earlier years, he had a love for the outdoors trapping, fishing, and hunting.
Perhaps closest to Richard's heart was the joy he found in the company of his loved ones. He was happiest when surrounded by friends and family, especially while engaging in his Sunday ritual of cooking for them.
He was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Art Hedges; siblings, Selma Kay Christiansen, Donald Myrl Ashford, and Erma Jo Ann Ashford Day.
Survivors include his brother, Larry Ashford; children, Seth Ashford (Melanie), Tassie Renshaw, and Lena Ashford; grandchildren, Kyler (Crystal), Kaisten (Priscilla), Kenzie, and Karlie; great-grandchildren, Amber, Jennah, Elizabeth, Boe, Ella, and Liam.
The family will gather with friends 2:00 to 4:00 P.M. Thursday, January 8, United Methodist Church, Mound City, Missouri. Inurnment Mount Hope Cemetery at a later date.
