Dale C. Kolterman 1947 - 2024

ONAGA – Dale C. Kolterman, 76, of Onaga, passed away on Saturday, February 3, 2024 at the Via Christi Village Nursing Home in Manhattan.  

He was born August 28, 1947, at Onaga, the son of Cecil and Martha Miller Kolterman.  He graduated from Onaga High School in 1965.

Dale served in the U.S. Army, in the infantry, with the First Air Cavalry Division, 2-12 Battalion, C Company. They were later known as the Lost Battalion of the Tet Offensive.

He was a member of New Hope Lutheran Church in Onaga, Onaga V.F.W., and a Life Member of the Onaga Historical Society.  He was a former Director of the Onaga Ball Association and had coached Little League Baseball for many years.  He played Fastpitch Softball, catcher’s position, and later played in the Senior Slowpitch League.

In the 1970’s Dale owned and operated the True Value Hardware store in Onaga.  He later operated Dale C. Kolterman & Company construction business. He also worked in maintenance at Community Hospital, Onaga and for the Onaga School District, where he also drove a bus.

He married Barbara L. Jeanneret on May 8, 1971 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Duluth. She survives, of the home.

Other survivors include three sons, Christopher Kolterman (Kylie), Soldier, and Benjamin Kolterman (Juley) and William Kolterman (Amy), all of Onaga, a daughter, Hannah Kolterman, Onaga, two brothers, Gordon Kolterman (Lorraine), Buckeye, IA and Gary Kolterman (Joan), Havensville, one sister, Mary Pierson (James), Onaga, and nine grandchildren, Jazmin, Mazie, Eddie, Corbin, Emma, Jackson, Gavin, Ryder and Mattie.

Memorial services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 10th at New Hope Lutheran Church.  Burial with military honors will follow in the Neuchatel Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Onaga.  Memorials are suggested to New Hope Lutheran Church, the Onaga Ball Association, or the Onaga Historical Society, and may be sent in care of the funeral home, PO Box 312, Onaga, KS  66521.
