While at Maysville High, Roger was a member of the “Racehorse Five” which was the 1953 basketball team that played in the Class B State Tournament.

Roger’s time in the Navy ended in 1958 with an honorable discharge. The couple returned to Amity and Roger worked on his parent’s farm. They also purchased acreage in the Wood Community.

In October of 1965 Roger was hired by the Missouri State Highway Patrol Commercial Division and worked at the weight station on Highway 36 until 1992 when he retired. The entire time Roger worked for the Highway Patrol he was also running a farm with a herd of cattle.
