An accident in Livingston County in which a semi tractor-trailer struck a combine is being used as an example of the dangers posed on the highways during harvest season.

The Livingston County Sheriff’s Department reports the semi clipped the driver side rear tire of the combine while trying to pass. Both were traveling west on U.S. 36 Highway near Mooresville Tuesday, sending the combine into the median where it overturned, coming to rest on its side.

The combine driver, 60-year-old Curt Shonk of Breckinridge, suffered minor injuries.

The truck driver, 72-year-old Daniel Deal of Kansas City, was not injured.

The Livingston County Sherriff's Department assisted the Missouri Highway Patrol to clear the road. It took several hours for normal traffic flow to resume.

Livingston County Sherriff Steve Cox reminds motorists fall harvest season is in full swing and they should be aware of everything on the road and be on the lookout for large farm vehicles.  The Livingston County Sherriff's office encourages everyone to put their phones down and to not drive distracted, putting the safety of you and your family above all else while traveling.
