The Missouri Western State University Workforce Development Center is helping employers enhance their workforce by developing a unique career ladder.
Director Rebecca Lobina says the career ladder is a formalized pathway written down for employees to move upwards.
"Most of the time, nine out of 10 places you work hard and you get ahead and you take a promotion when it comes along, but it's very kind of nebulas when those words are given to you," Lobina says on the KFEQmunnity show. "Whereas a formalized career ladder gives you an exact step by step pathway from your organization."
Lobina says for example you could start out as a medical technician in a doctor's office and says using the career ladder would give that employee a step-by-step guide of the skills and training opportunities needed to grow in the workplace, doing trainings such as CPR, and understanding things like Microsoft word and PowerPoint.
"Those are all training opportunities and they can be set into a formalized career ladder that says if you do step one, and step two, and step three, you are actually getting one step closer to becoming an office manager or medical office manager, whatever the case may be," Lobina explains.
