Melvin L. Whitlock 87, passed away Friday, January 16, 2026 at his home in Dearborn, MO surrounded by family.
He was born to the late William and Ella May (Guy) Whitlock on December 3, 1938 in Forest City, MO. He was one of four boys. Melvin graduated from West Platte High School and joined the Navy in 1955, serving until 1959 with Squadron 25 aboard the USS Midway. Following his service in the Navy, he was employed as an electrician with Trans World Airline, retiring in April of 1997 after 38 years of service.
Melvin married Helen Zishka on August 4, 1960 in Atchison, Kansas, and together they had 3 children. He loved his small farm, gardening, trapshooting, and his dog Sandy. but most of all he loved his family.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Gary Whitlock. Survivors include: wife, Helen Whitlock of the home, sons; Byron Whitlock of Oswego, KS, and Dennis Whitlock of Smithville, MO, daughter, Christa (Ralph) Simmons of Tishomingo, OK, brothers; William Whitlock Jr., and Ronald (Hilda) Whitlock of Kansas City, MO, granddaughters, Sarah and Jessica, several step grandchildren and two step great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM on Thursday at the Rupp Funeral Home. Funeral services and public live stream; 2:00 pm, Thursday, January 22, 2026 at the Rupp Funeral Home, The Interment will be at the Union Cemetery. Memorials are requested to the Angels Vet Express (M'Shoogy's).
