Mary Catherine Skeels, age 81, of Leavenworth, Kansas passed away peacefully on September 4, 2025. She was born on December 15, 1943, in Atchison, Kansas, to Louis and Dorothy Geisendorf.
Mary is survived by her sister, Rose Colwell; her two daughters, Martha Skeels and Linda Oliver; four grandchildren, Brandon Skeels, Dylan Skeels, Philip Downey and Brittany Boldridge; and three great-grandchildren, Philliah, Jaylen, and Philip Jr. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Clifford Skeels, and her brother, Eugene Geisendorf.
Mary enjoyed a fulfilling 27-year career in quality control at Hallmark Cards, where her dedication and attention to detail made a lasting impact. Outside of work, she had a deep passion for sports—especially baseball—and rarely missed a game on TV. She also loved to travel, explore new places, and take in the sights. A skilled gardener, Mary found great joy in working in her yard and being surrounded by nature.
Mary will be remembered for her strong spirit, love for her family, and the joy she found in life’s simple pleasures.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 12, 2025, at Vaughn’s Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 12:00 p.m., with the service to follow at 1:00 p.m then burial at Mt. Bethel Cemetery.
