A spike in coronavirus cases at the St. Joseph prison has been reported by the Missouri Department of Corrections.
Corrections officials report 81 active cases of COVID-19 among prisoners incarcerated in St. Joseph. Three members of the staff also have contracted the coronavirus, according to the department.
That is by far the most COVID-19 cases in the Missouri prison system.
Among other northwest Missouri prisons, the Chillicothe prison reports 15 inmates with COVID-19 as well as five staff members. The Cameron prison reports six offenders with the virus and one member of its staff, while the prison in Maryville reports three staff members have contracted COVID, but no inmates have tested positive for the virus.
