Bishop LeBlond golf qualifies for state as a team with victory at Fairview

District golf took place across the region Monday numerous area golfers punching their ticket to state next week.

Class 3 District 4 at Fairview
Bishop LeBlond finished in first place with 301 points and qualified all five varsity golfers for state. Senior and Missouri Western golf commit Jeffrey Johnston won the meet with a score of 71.

Also in Class 3, Lafayetteā€™s Sam Ryan has qualified for state. Maryville also qualified the trio of Ethan and Jacob Scott, along with Trevin Cunningham. Staying in Class 3, Savannahā€™s Zach Vega qualified for state as well. State golf for Class 3 is in Farmington next week.  

Class 5 District 4
St. Joseph Centralā€™s Daniel Love and Andrew Wheatley have qualified for state. The Class 5 state meet is in Sedalia.

Class 1 District 4 @ Excelsior Springs
Mid-Buchananā€™s Noah Hughes is a district champion. He and Lane Ellison have qualified for state in Nixa.

State golf for all classes is May 17-18.

District tennis
The Savannah tennis team, seeded No. 1 in Class 1 District 16, opened district play with a clean 5-0 sweep of Bishop LeBlond at Savannah High School Monday afternoon.

The Savages actually only won 3 matches, but won 2 more by default because LeBlond had only 5 active players on their roster, which caused them to start the day with both a singles and doubles loss on the score sheet.

The Savages will now host Maryville for the district title on Tuesday afternoon at 4 p.m. The Spoofhounds eliminated Benton, 5-0 on Monday.

In other district tennis action, St. Joseph Central defeated Staley 5-3. The Indians face Liberty in district semifinals Tuesday afternoon at 4 at Bennett Park.

Baseball
Lawson 5 Mid-Buchanan 3. The Cardinals clinched the regular season KCI Conference title with the victory.

St. Pius X 6 Lafayette 4. Pius can clinch the MEC Conference crown with a win over Chillicothe Tuesday.

Chillicothe 6 Savannah 1
North Andrew 11 North Nodaway 0. The Cardinals get their first win of the season behind 10 strikeouts by Hayden Ecker.

Lathrop 15 North Platte 5
Maysville @ DeKalb was cancelled.

Girlsā€™ soccer
Mid-Buchananā€™s final regular season match against Guadalupe was canceled due to COVID-19 tracing within Guadalupeā€™s program. The Dragons finish their inaugural regular season with a 10-6 record. Theyā€™ll face Kansas City Lutheran in districts next Tuesday.
