Galen Belcher, 93, Kansas City, formerly of St. Joseph, MO, passed away on Tuesday, January 7, 2025 at New Mark Rehab and Healthcare Center.
Galen was born on March 21, 1931 in Camden Point, Missouri; to the late Alvin and Opal (Branson) Belcher. He was a 1949 graduate of Axtell High School.
Mr. Belcher served his country in the U.S. Marines during the Korean Conflict from 1951-1953.
Galen spent his career as an expediter for American Can Company and then worked for Independent Welding.
Mr. Belcher was a man of great faith, serving as Pastor for Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church, Ridgley Christian Church and Camden Point Christian Church. He also fulfilled his civic duty as Mayor of Camden Point. Galen was an avid baseball fan, he enjoyed playing and coaching for many years and cheering on the Kansas City Royals and Chiefs.
Galen married Ethel Mae "Corkie" Hollar in 1950. Together, they celebrated 67 years of marriage before she preceded him in death on January 20, 2018.
In addition to his wife and parents, Galen was also preceded in death by his son, Timothy and infant son, Tracy Belcher.
Galen is survived by his son, Thomas Belcher (Karen), Kansas City, MO; daughters, Terrie Norris (Steve), Lenexa, KS and Tricia Smith (Mike), Kansas City MO; six grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Funeral Service 1:00 PM Saturday at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel, where the family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:00 to 1:00 PM. Private Family Interment at Memorial Park Cemetery.
