Lawrence E. “Larry” Smith, III, 77, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, July 11, 2023.
He was born February 16, 1946 in El Centro, California, to Lawrence E. Smith, II and Jacqueline (LaBarge) Smith.
Larry proudly served his country for 25 years in the U.S. Army, seeing duty in Vietnam, Panama and Grenada among many other places. After retiring from the military, he taught various courses at ITT for 10 years.
Larry married Deborah Lynne Harding in 1991.
He enjoyed model trains, reading, camping and mowing the lawn. Larry liked to cook and was known for his Mexican lasagna.
He was a very giving, loving man who liked to joke around but when it was time to be serious, he got serious.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Terri; and beloved dog, Lady Bug.
Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Deborah; children, Jackie Sandmeier, Lawrence E. Smith, IV (Marianna), and Kristina Bouyea (Stan); several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Kathy Smith; and beloved dog, Winston.
Farewell Services with Full Military Honors and Public Livestream 1:30 P.M. Monday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. Inurnment Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will gather with friends 2:00 to 4:00 P.M. Sunday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory.
