It is with heavy hearts we share the passing of Alan Floyd Edwards on Saturday, October 25, 2025 in Leavenworth, Kansas at the age of 62. For years, Alan courageously fought a long illness. We find comfort in knowing that he is with his Heavenly Father.
Alan was born in Leavenworth on January 24, 1963 to David and Marilyn Edwards. Alan attended school in Leavenworth from elementary to high school. Alan loved cars and pursued a vocational-technical education attending an automotive trade school. Alan developed a diverse skill set working in the automotive industry as a service technician, service advisor, sales manager, and processing warranty information. Alan played baseball while growing up and later softball in adulthood. He also participated in youth activities with his church. Alan, along with his brother Scott, sang as a member of the New Way Singers, a Christian music group. They performed at area churches and the group also produced records.
Alan’s favorite hobby was fishing. He also loved camping and boating. Alan was an avid fan of football (especially the KC Chiefs), KC Royals, KU basketball, and NASCAR. Alan enjoyed working with his hands and had an affinity for anything with a motor. Alan led a simple lifestyle focusing on the things and activities that he valued the most. He also honored and cherished his family and friends.
Alan is preceded in death by his brother, Scott W. Edwards and his uncle, Kenneth L. Banks.
Alan is survived by his significant other of 20 years, Kathy Tatom; his daughter, Amanda Matteo (Antonio); his sons, Michael Edwards, Chad Edwards (Katelin), and Alex Edwards; his parents, David and Marilyn Edwards; his sister-in-law, Tanja Edwards; his nephew, Ryan Edwards (Katy); and seven grandchildren, Taylor, Aiden, Cooper, Raelynn, Watson, Waylon, and Gabriel (Gabe) and great-nephew, Nolan and great-niece, Nora. Alan is also survived by numerous friends that became his family.
The family wishes to thank the Faith Home Health and Hospice Care and the hospice team (Kayla, Stephanie, Katrina, Susie, Katie, and Chaplain John as well as other nurses) for their devotion to caring for Alan.
Memorial contributions are suggested in lieu of flowers to First Baptist Church or Hope Pet Rescue. Memorial Visitation will be held on Friday, November 7, 2025 from 11 to 1 P.M. at Davis Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens Cemetery. To honor Alan’s wishes, a Celebration of Life event will be announced at a later date.
