HOLTON – Diane Roles, 75, of Holton, passed away on Wednesday, December 27, 2023 at her home.
She was born September 14, 1948 in Salina, the daughter of Edward and Maxine Steudte Gardiner.
Diane worked as a nurse’s aide for the Topeka State Hospital until it was closed. She then worked at the Jackson County Nursing Home and Harrah’s Prairie Band Casino.
She married Wayne Bush in February of 1973. They were divorced. She married Howard “Dale” Roles on February 25, 1975. They were divorced.
Diane was preceded in death by her parents, Edward Gardiner and Maxine Oates, a granddaughter, Shelby Roles, who died at birth, and a brother, David Oates.
Survivors include a son, “J.D.” Roles (Kasey), Whiting; two daughters, Amy Schmutzler (Matt), Topeka and Janet Curtis (Jimmy), Holton; a brother, Eugene Gardiner, Topeka; three sisters, Carol Welch and Vernell Gardiner, both of Topeka, and Jeanenne Moore, in Colorado; ten grandchildren, Amber, Michael, Michael, Mellanie, Morissa, Allison, Wyatt, Hope, Grace and Hudson, and nine great grandchildren.
A visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 30th, with services at 10:30, at Chapel Oaks Funeral in Holton. Burial will follow in the Holton Cemetery. Diane will lie in state Friday until 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
