Shirley J. Murphy, 81, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Saturday, September 2, 2023.
She was born in St. Joseph, Missouri on September 22, 1941, to John L. and Marie (Lollar) Murphy.
Shirley earned her master’s degree and went on to teach in the St. Joseph School District for over 20 years. She taught at Benton High School, Lafayette High School and Hillyard Technical. After retirement, she participated in adult literacy and adult education programs.
She was a member of the Missouri State Teachers Association, Missouri Vocation Association, National Business Education Association, Missouri Business Education Association and a dedicated member of the South Park United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Sharon K. Ziph, Paul E. Murphy and Dean Murphy; and nephew, Matthew Ziph.
Survivors include numerous nieces and nephews.
